Screw Velocity from Volumetric Flow

Convert a target volumetric injection flow into the equivalent axial screw velocity for the installed screw.

Example starting values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with your measured, quoted, or job-specific inputs before relying on a result.

Inputs

Inputs

Range: at least 0.001 in^3/s

Enter the target or measured volumetric flow at the screw face, not hydraulic pump flow or cavity flow. This is a single operating point, not a complete injection velocity profile.

Range: at least 0.001 in

Use the actual installed injection screw diameter in inches. The calculator assumes a circular screw face and uniform axial motion.

Interpretation and limits
Screw velocity is the equivalent axial speed for the entered volumetric flow and installed screw area. Actual machine flow may be limited by pressure, drive dynamics, control profile, and melt behavior. Use the machine's own injection-flow and velocity data for selection or validation; this conversion alone does not establish achievable speed or part-fill conditions.
