Batch Moisture Change Estimate

Estimate water to remove or add when a resin batch moves between two measured wet-basis moisture levels.

Example starting values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with your measured, quoted, or job-specific inputs before relying on a result.

Inputs

Inputs

Range: at least 0.001

Enter the total wet batch mass associated with the initial moisture measurement. Choose lb, oz, or g below.

Defaults to lb; internal mass balance uses lb.

Range: 0–999,999

Use a measured wet-basis value from a documented method suitable for the resin. ASTM D6869-25 uses Karl Fischer; ASTM D6980-25 uses loss-in-weight and does not identify what volatilized.

Range: 0–999,999

Use the desired wet-basis target in the selected unit. The normalized value must be below 100% (below 1,000,000 ppm); 100% leaves no dry solids for this balance.

Defaults to percent. Conversion: 10,000 ppm = 1% by mass.

Mass-balance interpretation and limits
Positive water change estimates water mass to remove; negative estimates water mass to add. The calculation assumes only water changes and dry-solids mass is conserved. ASTM D6869-25 and D6980-25 are measurement methods, not acceptance limits; the loss-in-weight method may include non-water volatiles. This does not predict dryer temperature, residence time, airflow, or achievable resin moisture.
