Mold Envelope vs. Tie-Bar Opening Screen

Check whether a mold envelope fits a press tie-bar opening as entered or after a 90-degree rotation.

Example starting values are prefilled to demonstrate the calculation. Replace them with your measured, quoted, or job-specific inputs before relying on a result.

Inputs

Mold and press opening dimensions

Range: at least 0.0 in

Maximum outside mold dimension in one plan-view axis, including clamps/protrusions that must pass between the tie bars.

Range: at least 0.0 in

Outside mold dimension in the perpendicular plan-view axis, including protrusions that must pass between tie bars.

Range: at least 0.0 in

Measure clear inside distance from machine maker’s press drawing; do not use tie-bar center spacing.

Range: at least 0.0 in

Measure perpendicular clear inside opening from the machine maker’s press drawing.

Result

Fits tie-bar opening in at least one orientation
Fits
Does not fit
Entered orientation height clearance (in)
2.000
Entered orientation width clearance (in)
1.000
Rotated orientation height clearance (in)
4.000
Rotated orientation width clearance (in)
-1.000
Geometric screen limitation
A positive clearance means geometric space remains in that orientation; zero means exact nominal boundary; negative means interference. If either orientation fits, the mold passes only this rectangular tie-bar-opening screen. Confirm the OEM machine drawing and separately check mold height, platen/clamp geometry, locating ring, daylight, stroke, lifting path, and loads.
